Title

History of Bread in America

Subject

This is about the history of bread in America, shown in a timeline style. It goes over the introduction of sourdough bread into America, as well as the first wheat crops being grown in the colonies. It goes on to detail certain trends in regions of America, such as the San Francisco sourdough and the introduction of sliced bread into popular culture. The addition of technology into the history of bread is important because for so long, bread making has been a very simple process. The bread machine for example was important because it put making bread in the hands of anyone who had the time of pouring ingredients into a bucket and then pressing a button. This step was imperative in helping put homemade bread in households across the country.

Description

This item is a very good overview of bread trends throughout American history. It does a very good job at glossing over and giving brief ideas, but it is a great resource to understand how bread was able to become mainstream, especially things like white bread. I appreciate the style of this website because it is easy to digest, while also being a great starting point for doing more research on this topic. It was here that I decided to bring white bread into the fold for the modern part of my research.
